Victoria Tait catches up with top New Zealand fashion designer Trelise Cooper on what she’s reading, buying and finding inspiring.
Most treasured possession is… The conversations that I have with my 30-year-old son Jasper who now lives in New York. I treasure his wisdom, his insight and humanity. The first thing I do in the morning… I’m woken up by my husband with a cup of hot water and lemon followed by a cup of coffee.
Flats or heels? I’m five-foot-three, so heels.
My signature fragrance is… Portrait of a Lady by Frederic Malle is my current go-to.
The work of art I’d most like to own is… The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci. I love it as I had an experience with my son Jasper at The Louvre where he explained the lighting and history behind the work.
My recent extravagant purchase was… When I was recently in Hawaii, I visited the Gucci store where my husband insisted I have three handbags and two pairs of shoes all in one go! Something I don’t think I’ve ever done.
I’m reading… Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. It’s a very clever, modern tale about all the things we face as women today. I’d also recommend
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. I loved this book.
You may not know this about me but… I have step-children who came into my life when they were four and five years old; they are now 42 and 43. They both were adopted by my husband and his former wife and are of Indian heritage. So, we have a lovely blended family, and all our children have a very close bond.
The piece of advice I would give my younger self is… This too shall pass, and even though it doesn’t look like it at the time, this is a gift.
